// About

If you’re thinking about leaving the Windows mothership to sojourn in the land of Macs, this blog’s for you. Switching from Windows to Macs is a complex project for any law firm. I’ve been thinking about and reading about The Switch for quite a while, and I’m trying to formulate some method to master the madness of switching. ‘Cause it is a kind of madness. Big changes for incremental gains. A lot of work when you’ve got a system in place that works pretty well.

This blog will chronicle the choices I’ve made and the reasons for those choices as I journey from Windows to the Mac (hopefully without the Back Again). And I’m just setting out. I’m a small shop with three pentium computers on an XP network. Now I have a MacBook Pro in hand and the task is to integrate Macs into the practice. Maybe sharing my experiences will make your own road to the Mac a little easier to navigate.

I’ll also be producing video podcasts (a/k/a screencasts) of the way my office uses software to get things done. I’m hoping to get these off the ground early next year. I help people with Social Security disability and worker’s compensation claims. We request and review thousands of pages of medical records every year. We need to be very organized to manage this volume of paper. So I’ll describe some of the things we do to cope with that problem in these screencasts. In addition to reviewing Mac software, I’m sure some of these videos will focus on Windows software running under Parallels or VMWare Fusion.

In any event, the video podcasts will be the Show and Tell feature of the blog that may be the most useful aspect of the whole enterprise. Seeing how things work is so much better than reading a description, however clear and detailed it may be.

Besides, screencasting gives me a reason to buy a nice microphone, a headset and some really cool software to play with!

Hope you enjoy the site.
