Daylite 3.7.4 Beta Released–Merges with Pages!

It’s been a busy few months at work so the blog got the short end of the stick. But in the last week, I’ve been working on finalizing the plan to transition from my Windows machines at work to a new set of Macs. Most of that time has been spent tweaking categories, keywords and custom forms in Daylite. Now some very good news has just arrived. Daylite 3.7.4 beta is now out and it merges with Pages! (And Keynote and Numbers) I have no idea how well it works, how much data is made available for the merge or what steps the merge process requires, but this is excellent news for attorneys who don’t like to cut and paste to create new letters, pleadings, briefs, etc.

Here’s part of the the announcement from Marketcircle:

We’re releasing a Public Beta for our users to test and provide feedback on Daylite 3.7.4. We’ve made several fixes and added new features, and would appreciate feedback on these; the complete list of fixes and new features is listed below.

PLEASE NOTE: this release is a beta release, and may be further updated based on feedback from users; as such, it should not be considered as a ‘final’ release. We are confident that the fixes and features it brings are stable, but be warned that you use this release at your own risk. Please be sure to make appropriate backups of your database(s) - both online and offline.

The purpose of this public beta is to allow our users to test and provide feedback on this release; to that end, we’ve created this thread in the Marketcircle forums for such feedback. Please note that:

support on this release will be provided only through this forum thread, or you may also provide feedback through the Daylite Beta mailing list (if you are already registered on the mailing list)

Marketcircle Support & Sales will not provide direct support on this public beta release

This thread is to concentrate on the fixes and features of this release only (as listed below); if you wish to discuss other issues or features not part of this release (or that of other releases), please do so under the Using Daylite or Troubleshooting forums as a separate thread, as appropriate.

The release notes for Daylite 3.7.4 are:

Marketcircle also fixed a number of bugs. I was intending to do a screencast on merging with the Built-in Editor. I’ll add the Pages merge to the mix. I hope it’s good!

    1. I have had nothing but problems with Daylite. Years ago I tested it on a trial license for which I bought a 30 day extension. The program was not then robust enough to support a litigation practice so I abandoned it. After reading your posts, I was encouraged enough to go to the Marketcircle site and after excitedly noting the new Filemaker widget (my practice databases are all Filemaker) and the merge Pages feature (I use Pages!) I downloaded what I expected to be 3.7.4. I was hoping to test its merge capabilities with Pages. Sadly the “trial” version wouldn’t open claiming my license had expired (I had already rummaged through my library preferences to remove the old Daylite ones, as well as deleting the former license from my keychain). I tried to contact Marketcircle, without result. Then I tried to make use of their handy uninstall application, which simply didn’t work, so I was obliged to drag the entire folder to Trash, where I think it shall remain. All in all a very frustrating waste of a billable morning. It seems that Marketcircle remains much as it ever was, to wit, an unfulfilled promise of a better tomorrow.

    2. Brock: Sorry to hear about your experience trying to use 3.7.4. I’ve spent the past week doing the import. I expect Marketcircle will get the import problems worked out so that a week of work becomes a day of work. But so far, the little we’ve done actually using the program has been promising.

Ironically, the built-in editor handles more complex merges and Pages is good for a straightforward merge. We’ll have to do a mix of merge templates to make it work. The built-in editor needs to be beefed up a bit (page breaks, pagination, headers and footers, that sort of thing). There are some other UI enhancements I’d like to see, but again it’s been pretty good so far.

You might try again with MC to get the license thing resolved. You may find 3.7.4 to your liking if you can ever get it loaded! Cheers.
